Born in 1987 in Istanbul, Lara Kamhi has studied Theatrical Studies at University Sorbonne Nouvelle Paris-III and Film Studies at the American University of Paris with a concentration on French New Wave before obtaining her Film and Television BA in 2011 at Istanbul Bilgi University. She has been attending advanced sound engineering classes at The London Music School and analogue film shooting & processing courses at no.w.here while pursuing her higher education at Slade School of Fine Art (UCL) in London where she completed her MFA degree in Fine Art Media in 2013. Having directed numerous short experimental films during her student years, she has been also working as a music video director and visual, stage & lighting designer for plays, videos, concerts and events. Upon returning to Istanbul, she co-founded an independent art initiative named Prizmaspace in 2014, where she nationally and internationally curated an exhibition series comprising of nine shows focusing on site-specific, immersive and cinematic approaches with emerging & established artists coming from filmmaking backgrounds, until 2016. By transgressing the borders between fields of visual story-telling, sound, light art and site-specific installation, her main focus is to create and capture immersive image spaces, soundscapes and narratives in which she explores and investigates the confusing conflict between appearance and truth. Since 2009, Kamhi has exhibited and screened her works in galleries, museums, festivals and public spaces, nationally and internationally. She presently works on her short film Transparency of Being (due 2018) and her first feature film Chaosmos (due 2020).
